Kirsty Wright, Watch Manager
I am an Operational Watch Manager and I have worked for South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue for 15 years. Before that I worked as a Fire Control Operative taking 999 calls for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
I didn't think I would be fit or strong enough to be a firefighter but spending time in this post gave me the confidence to apply. I attended a 'Have a go' day and realised I had more strength and determination that I gave myself credit for!
I wanted to become a firefighter to make a difference to others and help vulnerable people by keeping them safe. I also wanted to work in an environment which would challenge me physically, emotionally and mentally.
I wanted to work with people that would encourage and inspire me to do better and be better. A favourite saying of mine is 'empowered women empower women'. I feel empowered as a female firefighter and I hope to empower others.
